Week 1 - Complete

fmojeda September 2nd, 2008

Week 1 IS DONE!!

What in the heck does that mean?

We completed our first week last Thursday night capping off practice with a cool down stretch and a short discussion.  Of course the first week of anything (work, school, sports) brings about a great deal of excitement often times followed up by a deflatting crash.  For some reason I do not feel that is the case this year.

The team showed up on Tuesday to complete a PT test along with some skill metrics to establish a baseline of where we are at as a team.  Dare I say, we were at or above the same as we were at any point last year.  This is great news, showing the guys either magically got better or someone they worked on their stuff enough over the summer to maintain and not lose anything.  Following that we scrimmaged, which was a lot of fun to just watch and see how the new guys played along with the veterans.  As our captain Matt Morell put it, the practice was high energy.

On Thursday we dove right into our playbook.  Even though the team does not need to know the playbook until September 8, we went ahead and dove into one section of the book in order to get moving forward.  Thursdays practice brought about the “hard work” that makes a lacrosse team.  Practice was a lot of fun and the guys definitely showed up to play and learn.

Overall, I think the first two practices were awesome.  The players showed up and gave us the attention we needed to get stuff done, and the coaches came prepared and worked together as a team to keep the practice on track to where we wanted to get to.  The feeling of euphoria is definitely not gone, and I am excited to get back to work this week.  Three practices this week, Tues/Thurs/Fri.  Should be good to see how much improvement we can make this week as we continue to take steps forward.

ALUMNI WEEKEND!!!

Alumni Weekend is September 20, 2008.  We will have an alumni game at 1:00 p.m. and then dinner and cocktails at Joey Buona’s starting at 5:00 p.m.  This ought to be a great event for us to be able to hang out with the alums, raise some money for the team, and just be merry.  We are going to be auctioning off the old jerseys.  I know, I may or may not be purchasing my old jersey!  Hope to see many of you there.

Final Thoughts

It is too early to tell what type of team we are going to have, however, I can tell you this.  We are going to be successful this weekend and it is going to be a blast.  I already have the itch, and can’t wait to get to practice each day.  Look forward to seeing some of you on Sunday at Indian Summerfest.  As soon as I know the time, I will let you know.  Until next time…..

Fall Season is Upon Us

fmojeda August 24th, 2008

WOW!!!! I can’t believe it, the fall season is here. A few housekeeping things just to alert everyone of some important dates

August 25 - Mandatory Player Meeting, 8:30, Room TBD (look for an email)

August 26,28 - Practice at the Valley, 7:30-9:30pm

September 20 - Alumni Game/Dinner, invitation and formal announcement to follow.

October 10-11 - Marquette Invitational. Please note, this date is tentative as we may have a conflict with our league meeting.

We, the coaches are extremely excited for this season. Fresh off one of the toughest years we have had in a while, we did a lot of soul searching. The coaches got together and talked through a lot of the things that can be changed, done differently or what not to improve our team. Knowing the returning players dedicated to being successful, we developed some plans with captain input to improve for this year. I think as a fan/alum/parent you will see these starting right away in the fall.

We also have some other exciting announcements but I need to discuss these with the Executive Board before I post them here, so look for those later.

For me, this summer was about preparation. We wanted to take the time to prepare every last detail so that all of our players could see exactly what we are planning for the season. Great thanks to the captains for taking the time to meet with the coaches to get on board so they know what is going on and could provide us with valuable player feedback.

All the incoming players and returning players I have been in touch with over the summer are working hard to be ready for the fall. It is exciting to know players are working hard on their own to get better. I can’t wait to see how that translates to success in both practice and on the lacrosse field.

Well, look for a few announcements in the coming weeks. I will start blogging more regularly so that everyone can be up to date on what we are doing this season. Hope everyone had a delightful summer, see you this fall.
